Archbishop Gabriele Caccia is the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations. Born in Milan in 1958, he was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Milan in 1983. After parish ministry, he entered the Holy See’s diplomatic service in 1991, serving in Tanzania and later at the Secretariat of State. He has since been Apostolic Nuncio to Lebanon and the Philippines. In 2019, Pope Francis appointed him to his current role in New York.
