Kitchen Operations Supervisor
The Kitchen Operations Supervisor is responsible for leading all day-to-day kitchen operations that support the ministry, programs, and events of Saint Thomas More Chapel & Center. This “hands-on” position oversees menu planning, food procurement, production, hospitality service, and kitchen organization for more than 20 weekly events—ranging from small meetings to Sunday community brunches—and manages STM’s weekly charitable soup kitchen serving 200–300 guests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Food service Leadership & Operations (Approx. 50%)
- Plans menus and food production for all STM events.
- Provides on-site hospitality and food service.
- Ensures excellent quality and presentation of food.
- Maintains safe, sanitary, and well-organized kitchen spaces.
- Coordinates with Assistant Chaplains and staff.
- Trains and mentors per diem staff.
- Manages weekly inventory.
2. Procurement, Ordering, & Vendor Relations (Approx. 15%)
- Orders/purchases food and supplies.
- Handles pickups and deliveries.
- Maintains vendor relationships.
- Coordinates outside catering when needed.
3. Soup Kitchen Operations (Approx. 20%)
- Manages all food-related aspects of the weekly soup kitchen.
- Procures food from Yale dining halls.
- Leads preparation and service for 200–300 guests.
- Manages storage, clean up, inventory.
4. Administration & Budget Management (Approx. 10–15%)
- Manages invoices, credit card statements, budgets, inventory logs.
- Ensures accurate and timely recordkeeping.
5. Event & Facility Support
- Works with Facilities team on event setups.
- Supports evening/weekend events.
- Other duties as assigned.
6. Required Qualifications and Skills:
- 3–5 years of culinary or kitchen operations experience.
- Strong culinary and menu-planning skills.
- Supervisory experience.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- Must be comfortable with nights/weekends/Sundays.
- Must be 21 years old.
Other Duties
- Supports major STM events; other duties as assigned.
- Responsible for supervision of Per Diem Kitchen Staff.
Work Status
Work status is Full Time/Academic Year (August–June). FLSA Status is Exempt.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in events or hospitality management.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Strong communication abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work evenings/weekends/Sundays.
- Must be 21 years old.
Working Conditions:
Employee may sit, stand, lift up to 50 lbs; work occurs in office, event, and hospitality environments.
